Hospital leadership approached Neenan to assist them in assessing their market potential for growth in outpatient services and in securing financing to replace their functionally obsolete 1955 hospital. The Neenan Company led the programming and design, provided a guaranteed maximum price for the construction, and developed the overall capital budget. This budget included medical equipment, financing and furnishings, all within the hospital’s business plan and available funds. The hospital’s investment in a new facility helped to attract five new practitioners which enhanced their market capture and patient retention such that community health has improved significantly and their gross revenues have grown five-fold.
With the help of Stroudwater Associates, Charles Ervin – Mortgage Banker, Neenan and HLM Design, Rio Grande Hospital became the first critical access hospital in the nation to open utilizing this HUD 242 guaranteed mortgage loan program.
The design includes a helicopter-accessible Trauma Level IV emergency room, a full service laboratory, an imaging department, GI procedure room and operating room, as well as a surgical pre/recovery bay. The 17-bed facility includes 10 single occupancy patient rooms, 2 double occupancy rooms and 3 observation beds.
