In just 12 days in the summer of 2008, this 44,000 square foot 36-unit housing complex was crane-set in the midst of one of the most upscale ski villages in the Rocky Mountains. The result is an attractive, energy-efficient modular construction solution that eases the shortage of affordable housing for workers of Aspen Skiing Co. The project also earned the first ever LEED for Homes Silver Certified Low-Rise/Multi-Family/Affordable Housing project in Colorado.
The use of off-site, prefabricated construction enabled the team to trim four months from the schedule and save an estimated $850,000 on project costs. As the design-builder, The Neenan Company was responsible for honoring the two key ingredients that the developer had in achieving LEED certification for this project – commitment and team work, with the team being the town of Snowmass, the developer (Related WestPac), the modular unit manufacturer and all the specialty engineers and consultants necessary to make this project a success.
